According to PC WORLD's report, Microsoft officially announced the launch of the new generation of Surface Laptop 5G, which is expected to be launched on August 26, 2025. The new device's new device represents that Microsoft has begun to join the 5G network standard in terms of its pencil-type computer mobile connection capabilities, with the goal of focusing on the needs of the commercial market.

The report stated that in the integration of 5G technology for Surface Laptop, Microsoft has a key strategic choice, that is, to integrate 5G network capabilities into the consumer version of Surface Laptop equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips, or into the commercial version of Surface Laptop built-in Intel Core Ultra Series 2 (generation Lunar Lake) chips, and Microsoft finally chose the version equipped with Intel chips.

The report pointed out that this choice seems "a bit shocking" in the industry because Qualcomm not only produces personal computer chip sets, but also produces 5G base frequency chips. Despite this, Microsoft is still on the rise to Intel's solution. Intel provides a 5G module called Intel 5G Solution 5000. This solution was jointly developed with MediaTek and uses Intel's basic frequency technology.

In addition, Intel has maintained close cooperation with notebook computer manufacturers through its Evo plan for a long time, jointly designing solutions that combine their own chips and customer engineering expertise. This in-depth cooperation model may also be the key factor in choosing Microsoft to choose Intel as its final 5G baseline chip supplier.

Instruction has emphasized that in order to ensure that Surface Laptop 5G can provide excellent connection experience, the microcomputer has thoroughly redesigned the backplane and antenna design of the notebook computer. The microscope reveals that the position of the antenna is moved upward to achieve better connection performance. This design has been tested in more than 50 countries, with over 100 mobile network operators. Microsoft emphasizes that the design goal of this device is to achieve a sewageless switching between 5G and Wi-Fi wireless networks, which is an extremely important feature for users who often work in different environments.

Also, in terms of connection options, Surface Laptop 5G provides customers with the ability to choose to connect with nanoSIM cards or choose to work with eSIM. According to the small number of photos released by the microscope, the color of the top of the keyboard back panel of the Surface Laptop 5G may be different from other parts of the machine. It is worth noting that the Surface Laptop 5G itself is not an independent brand new device. Microsoft clearly states that 5G functionality will be available on different SKUs (models) of Surface Laptop for Business and only exist on specific models of 13.8-inch screens. This means that 5G connection capabilities are an option in the Surface Laptop product line.

It is expected that consumers and commercial customers still have multiple Surface Laptop and Surface Pro equipment available, including the 13.8-inch and 15-inch screen versions of Surface Laptop, which is a 13-inch screen version. In addition, there are smaller sizes such as the 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro. It is worth mentioning that Microsoft also produces the 12-inch commercial version of Surface Pro, but this model is equipped with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chip as the consumer version. This also once again highlights the diversified strategy of Microsoft for chip selection in different sizes and market positioning product lines.
