The British Financial Times reported today that the United States has eased China's science and technology export control measures to avoid interfering in trade talks with Beijing, and supports US President Trump's efforts to meet with Chinese President Jinping this year.

According to Reuters, Financial Times quoted current and former officials as saying that the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), which is in charge of export controls, has received instructions in the past few months to avoid taking tough measures against China. Reuters cannot immediately verify financial reporting content. White House and the U.S. Department of Commerce did not respond to Reuters' request for comment during non-official hours.

High-level trade officials in the United States and China are scheduled to resume meetings in Stockholm today to discuss long-term economic wars between the two countries, which are the core of the world's top two economic U.S.-China trade war.

Tech giant NVIDIA (Nvidia) said this month that it will resume selling Chinese H20 Artificial Intelligence (AI) graphics processors (GPUs). The Trump administration implemented export restrictions in April to prevent advanced AI chips from falling into China's hands, and now it has changed its course.

US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said the plan to resume sales is part of the US and China's debate on rare earths and magnets. The Financial Times also pointed out that 20 security experts and former officials, including Matt Pottinger, the former U.S. deputy national security consultant, will send a letter to Lutnik to express his gratitude today.

The letter read: "This must be a strategic mistake, endangering the economic and military advantages of the US artificial intelligence field."
