DRAM surge impact! Foreign media said it may prompt AMD to increase GPU prices

Although AMD is actively building momentum for next-generation chips, based on market news, AMD seems to have notified some partners that it will increase the price of existing Radeon graphics cards. However, since AMD has not yet responded to this, this news needs to be treated with caution.

Foreign media Extremetech pointed out that if the price increase comes true, it is still unclear when it will be reflected in the retail channel. Considering that we are entering the year-end shopping season, it is not a good time to increase the price, and AMD's unilateral price increase may also benefit competitors.

PCMag reported that DRAM prices have soared this year. In the third quarter of this year, DRAM prices increased by as much as 171.8% year-on-year. This surge has also triggered "panic purchasing" in some markets.

This is not the first time there has been news that tight DRAM supply has pushed up prices. However, in the past, NVIDIA usually launched an upgraded version of the "Super" series of GPUs in the middle of the product cycle, but there has been no news about the RTX 50 Super recently. It is currently speculated that NVIDIA may delay or even skip the Super series due to cost pressures.

From NVIDIA’s perspective, there is a good chance that the GeForce RTX 5080 and 5070 series will launch Super versions, but the need for higher capacity or newer specifications of memory (such as GDDR7) will significantly affect the cost, further affecting the final graphics card pricing. In addition, as cloud computing and AI companies increase their purchasing efforts, in addition to DRAM, SSD prices have also increased significantly.
