Recently, Manchester United legend Bryan Robson said in an interview that his former teammate Roy Keane may unexpectedly return to coaching, and Keane may serve as the assistant coach of the Irish team together with O'Shea.

From November 2013 to November 2018, when Martin O'Neill was coaching the Irish national team, Keane served as an assistant coach, but the two had many disputes. The last time Keane served as the team's head coach was from 2009 to 2011, when he coached Ipswich Town. Since being fired in January 2011, Keane has never served as the coach of any team.

Bryan Robson said that if Keane is willing to return to coaching, the Irish Football Association will seriously consider him. Robson said: "He understands football and has enough experience."

However, Robson also admitted that being the coach of this Irish team is not easy for anyone. He said: "When I played against Ireland, they had many very good players. Although they also have some good players now, in terms of overall strength, this Irish team's lineup is not strong.

"However, O'Shea works for the Irish team (now as assistant head coach), so Keane may go to work with O'Shea, which may be an option for him. "
