McTominay explained why he chose to join Naples. He said that Conte is not as ruthless as the outside world thinks.

While at Manchester United, McTominay has struggled to get consistent playing time and was often rotated in different positions. So when Conte offered him a move to Serie A, he jumped at the chance without hesitation.

"This was a big decision, but it was very straightforward for me." McTominay said in an interview with BBC Sports. "I saw the passionate fans, I saw the coaches and players, and I also saw an opportunity that could push my career further, so I chose here."

"I didn't hesitate. Yu, I made a decision quickly because I knew this was what I wanted. I never regret my decision, as long as I make up my mind to do something, I will go all out."

In the end, McTominay helped Naples win the Serie A championship and was named the best player of the season with 12 goals and 6 assists in 34 games. He also became a hero to Naples fans, even earning the local nickname "McFratham".

"I love this place, the fans and teammates here. It makes me very happy to train with Gilmour every day instead of just meeting with the national team. We help each other a lot."

"The head coach Conte is very good. He has high demands on the players and has a clear tactical concept. But he is not as ruthless as people think. "You can communicate with him, which is a good point."

"In training and work, we are very serious and have the same goal, which is to win. Otherwise we would not be here."

McTominay's performance in Naples was also recognized, and he was nominated for the Ballon d'Or for the first time, ranking 18th, higher than any other Serie A player.
